Revenge Transforms the Box Office

Michael Bay's latest film has beaten a few records; translating into Bay's best money grossing film to date. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has become a huge monster at the box office cannibalizing ticket sales. On its first day of release it managed to bring in $60.6 million, pushing down to second place Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which held the number one spot for Wednesday opening days. As Box Office Mojo reports Revenge of the Fallen has now earned approximately $112 million over its first weekend and a total of approximately $201 million in its first five days domestically. This ranks it in second next to The Dark Knight which made approximately $203 million in its first five days. The question that remains unanswered is if Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will surpass The Dark Knight in its total money grossing for both domestic and foreign. Hit the comment section and let us know your prediction.

'Watchmen' Director's Cut Re-Released

Like the title implies; Watchmen Director's Cut will be re-released, hitting the big screen yet again this July. This is great news for Watchmen fans but, it comes with bad news. The movie will only show for one weekend in one screen at each of the four selected cities (Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Minneapolis). As Collider reports, this will be the weekend before Comic-Con. Director Zack Snyder was the one to break the news as he also confirmed a new Watchmen movie poster to help promote the re-release. Only a lucky few will get to watch the extra 27 minutes of awesomeness (in theaters) that makes up the Director's Cut. The rest of the world will have to settle for the Blu-ray and/or DVD version being released on July 21.

    Hangover Sequel

film director Todd Phillips on Hangover sequel

"We were thinking of sequel ideas when we were shooting, which sounds cocky, but we were doing it more because it was just fun to talk about ideas while hanging out on the set," Phillips tells MTV. "Two weeks ago I was saying, 'Let's see how it works out.' Now that the movie has really connected, it's something we're doing for sure."

the director also goes on to mention that shooting can Begin as early as next spring and that he definitely wants all the main characters to return

"I wouldn't do it unless all four guys were back," he adds. "I love The Hangover so much and I think we could crush it with the sequel. I've never had more fun making a movie, ever. Not that Old School wasn't fun, but these guys were so hungry and ready to kick ass everyday. We just all gelled so well on this film."

JJ Abrams and Tom Cruise to Co-Produce MI:4

As The Hollywood Reporter announced, JJ Abrams will be producing the next Mission: Impossible movie for Paramount Pictures along side with Tom Cruise. They have a potential release date of 2011 for the film. The news does not come with Mr. Cruise as cast; which many might think points to the direction of the rumors from last year saying that Cruise would not return to star as Ethan Hunt on the next movie. Abrams is not set to direct this next film in the franchise. What plan or plans Abrams and Cruise have for MI:4 is not clear for now but, there's a chance we might get to see Cruise appear on the next movie as a mentor like THR points out.

Will Cruise return to star on the next film or will the rumors prove correct? For now we can only guess.

Sean Penn Takes a Leave From Hollywood

As The Hollywood Reporter announced, Sean Penn has dropped both the Stooges and Cartel films. This while also leaving Hollywood for an undetermined lapse of time. According to sources it will be for up to one year. Penn is said to be doing this as a way of having more free time to spend with his family.

This will only set back the efforts of both Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Both who wrote the script and are set to direct the film, The Three Stooges. We'll have to wait and see who MGM along with the Farrellys decide to cast in Penn's place. As of now they have Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio del Toro as Moe.

Universal and Imagine will continue to work on Cartel without the presence of Penn. They will recast the part. Cartel has an unfinished script still in the works that focuses on a man trying to protect his son. This after Mexican drug cartels murder his wife. The film will be directed by Asger Leth.

Danny Trejo Talks About His 'Machete'

Danny Trejo was approached by James Wallace of Gordon and the Whale over at CineVegas and, confirmed that he is indeed still on for the role of Machete in the Robert Rodriguez film by the same name. Trejo said that he was told by Rodriguez himself that Machete will start shooting in 5 weeks. Machete was one of the fake movie prevues shown during the movie Grindhouse. With this news one would think that the rumor for Eli Roth's Thanksgiving film has more of a reality. There is bad news though, Trejo stated that he will not be in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. He then said that he was never contacted by Stallone, squashing the rumor (like stated on IMDb) of his appareance on the film.

If you want to enjoy the Machete trailer again or perhaps for the first time check it out over on YouTube.

Peter Morgan Hired by Bond, James Bond

The next James Bond movie has now begun production. For now it's just the writing of the script, for what Peter Morgan has been hired by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. We learned of this through Cinematical which says that Morgan will be writing the script in junction with Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Both Purvis and Wade worked on 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace'. Paul Haggis will now be replaced by Morgan who will soon be debuting as a director with his film 'The Special Relationship'. For this next Bond installment there's a rumor going about, naming 'Slumdog Millionaire' and Oscar winner director Danny Boyle as a possibility to direct the movie. Entertainment Weekly got an email response by Boyle saying "I enjoy the Bond movies, always have and always will, but I have no plans to direct one, I don't know who came up with the story, but please tell them I'm very flattered to be thought of!"

Director Stephen Sommers Fired From G.I. Joe?!

News come from Latino Review when they found the post on the Don Murphy Message Board. The post is detailed on how director Stephen Sommers was fired for the poor test results from the film.

So the story goes like this-

after a test screening wherein the film tested the lowest score ever from an audience in the history of Paramount, the executive who pushed for the movie Brad Weston had Stephen Sommers, the super hack director of the film fired. Removed. Locked out of the editing room.

Stuart Baird, a renowned "fixer" editor was brought it to try to see if it could be made releasable. Meanwhile producer Lorenzo whose turkey IMAGINE THAT explodes this weekend as the new bomb in theatres
(also championed by Weston) was told his services were no longer needed on the film either.

Sommers was then forced by his William Morris agents to pretend that he was working on Tarzan over at Warner Brothers doing design work, even though that film doesn't even have a good script yet. When word of the firing started to be whispered about in Hollywood, Sommers was summoned back to the editing room- but only to save appearances, Baird is still editing the movie with studio input.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, who turned down other offers from the property to go with the script that was rushed in 8 weeks by Stuart Beattie because of the writer's strike is frantic that this will destroy the brand and is distancing himself from the pending catastophe.

NONE of this needed to happen, except someone who did not know the mythology, Lorenzo was in charge of the film and never contradicted Sommers on anything. Lorenzo, so you know, was Chairman of Warners and had GI JOE under option there (not as a producer) for SEVEN years and he refused to greenlight the film, stating that because he gre up in Italy he had no knowledge of it. If you google enough, at one point you will see he wanted the film to be about an action hero named MANN (Action Man, get it) and he clearly had no clue what the GI Joe world really was.

And the hapless hack Sommers? Where did he come from? The confused Jon Fogelman at William Morris, who signed Hasbro away from CAA, had to find a director in a hurry for his new clients and gave him the only guy who he repped who would do it. A sad end to what COULD have been a great franchise. Acceleration suits indeed.

Latino Review was able to get a word with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura who claims that the movie tested not poorly but, very well. He defended Sommers by saying that he did a really good job on the film and that test audiences responded well to the movie.

    Sequel!?!?!?!?

just when you thought Hollywood was starting to make good movies again, this happens. James Marsters, who played the villain Lord Piccolo in the first film, broke news of the sequel in an interview with a fansite. I wonder what dumbass executive gave this the green light! In its run in theaters Dargonball Evolution only took in about 9 million in the u.s alone, and seeing that the u.s accounts for about 45 to 50 percent of the film industry revenue I'm surprised that out of all the films to do a sequel on they choose this one. Hopefully they don't screw up the second time around, which is most likely to happen seeing that the films budget is Supposedly even smaller than the last one.

Mickey Rourke as Whiplash for 'Iron Man 2'

In the upcoming 'Iron Man 2' movie Mickey Rourke will be taking on the role of the villain as Whiplash. In the picture (right) we get a first look at what Whiplash will look like in the movie. Here he is appearing at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. The picture came in courtesy of USA Today.

Whiplash will wear a suit that seems related to Iron Man's. Director Jon Favreau had this to say, "The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film." Rourke will play the role of Ivan Vanko, an ex-con Russian who in the words of Favreau "has constructed his own version of a suit." As the name indicates Whiplash will use whips as weapons and will be similar to Iron Man's, hence the chest peace for powering the suit.

Favreau refused to say whether Whiplash will be a weapons designer like in the comics, working for Justin Hammer who will be played by Sam Rockwell. Justin Hammer is a competitor of Tony Stark and Iron Man. Favreau did mention the following "We like to play into and against the expectations that people might have so, we mixed it up a bit."

The performances in 'Sin City' and 'The Wrestler' by Rourke made an impression on Favreau. He then added the following "Robert has a tremendous screen presence. So it was very important that the villain be as compelling as can be. … Once I thought of Mickey in that role, it made me understand how to shape the story."

Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios recently talked about 'Iron Man 2', 'Thor', 'Captain America', 'Ant-Man', and 'The Avengers'. According to First Showing, Feige talked about the films during a presentation at the Produced by Conference at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City.

Iron Man 2: Feige stated that they want to carry on the sense of humor and tone of the first because he feels like this was a success. Improve it by adding more characters and action. He also talked about Scarlett Johansson and her role, explaining that her character has "two-sides". She will enter as Tony Stark's assistant and then be revealed as the character named Black Widow.

Thor: Feige confirmed both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as part of the cast. His focus was mostly on Hiddleston, who will be playing the villain Loki. Shakespearean dialogue will not be present in this film, as requested by Kenneth Branagh.

    The First Avenger: Captain America

Spider-Man 4: Kirsten Dunst, villain hints

For better or for worse (depending where you stand on this) Kirsten Dunst appears to have signed for 'Spider-Man 4', where she will continue her role as Mary Jane. The news comes from The New York Post when they asked producer Todd Black. He stated that Kirsten Dunst is on board despite the fact that director Sam Raimi last month said he wasn't sure of her return. Black mentioned that there are no plans to marry Peter with Mary Jane. While squashing rumors about Morbius being the villain, he did say this concerning the villain, "We're just coming up with who the villain's going to be now. We'll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it'll be a big part of New York." One more thing, the villain according to Black will be from the comics and not made up.

So there you have it, Dunst is set to return and the villain will have something to do with New York City.

Any guesses to who the villain will be? Drop a comment and share.

Mickey Rourke talks 'Iron Man 2'

During an interview with The Guardian, Mickey Rourke mentioned how far he has gone in his role as Ivan (Whiplash) for the upcoming movie 'Iron Man 2'. He has really put a lot of effort into the character by actually going to Russia and learning how to speak Russian among other things. He said "I decided to do half my role in Russian and that's hard because the Russian language doesn't roll off the English-speaking tongue very easily. I spent three hours a day with a teacher, and after two weeks I know four sentences! Let me see, it's sort of like... 'Yezzamee menya... Yezzamee manya obott... Er, nemaboootty menya...'" he later translates it "If someone kills me, don't wake me up, because I'd rather be dead than live in your world."

Despite all his hard work going into 'Iron Man 2' he adds that he isn't fond of this type of movies. He even disses 'Spider-Man' by having this to say "I'm not gonna rush out and see the next Batman, I'm not big on formula movies. I don't like all that Spider-Man shit."

During an interview with HitFix for his latest movie 'The Proposal' Ryan Reynolds had this to say about the 'Deadpool' spinoff, "Well, I'm intimately involved with it. We're just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it's going to be just like the comic books. I'm gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that's the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible."

Reynolds admitted to be working on a 'Deadpool' film but, there are many questions that still remain unanswered about the film. How will they work with the extra abilities that Deadpool wasn't supposed to have?
