Will 'Transformers: ROTF' Become the Fallen?

Well another 4th of July is upon us and the box office will without a doubt take in a lot of cash. With the new releases of 'Public Enemies' (R) and 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' (PG), there is new competition in town for Michael Bay's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' (PG-13).

When you factor in all three of the movies ratings in accordance to a family holiday weekend 'Ice age' has the upper hand. A PG rating will indeed help it, along with the fact that this is the third installment for this well known-successful movies and its first opening weekend landing on a holiday.

'Public Enemies' will most likely only appeal to an older age group. This alienates the movie from the rest of the movie goers who aren't old enough to watch it. I don't see how this will help the movie but, perhaps it was never made to take the number one spot. In its defense, the movie does star Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.

With all the money that 'Transformers' has pulled in, it seems like most people have already watched it, yet this doesn't mean that people won't be back for a second or perhaps third viewing. With the possibility of second time watchers and definitely new watchers, Bay's movie has a good possibility to take the number one spot again for a second weekend in a row.

Giant robots will battle it out this weekend against prehistoric beasts and gangsters. Only one will win but, for now let the fireworks (and fight) begin.

Update: Both 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' and 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' ended up in a tie for the first place at the box office with both earning $42.50 million. 'Public Enemies' followed, earning $26.17 million.
