MOVIE REVIEW: 'The Last Airbender'

M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie titled The Last Airbender is an adaptation of the anime. I must warn that SPOILERS WILL make their way into this review so read at your discretion from this point on. The anime might help the movie bring in big bucks at the box office, but will also leave most fans disappointed. The film was written and directed by Shyamalan himself so if the movie doesn't live up to what people want the already infamous director (due to his last couple of movies) will only hurt his name further.

The Last Airbender follows or attempts to follow the story to some extent of the anime, in which a 12 year old boy by the name of Aang must help in the fight against the Fire Nation. Aang, being a successor to the Avatars was born with the ability to bend air as opposed to other benders who can only bend water, earth, or fire. Aang (Noah Ringer) is discovered by Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her brother Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) after running away and hiding for 100 years. As the film progresses the audience learns that Aang has not yet mastered the bending of the other three elements, which only airbenders are capable of. Continue reading after the break...

The movie is relatively short (running 103 minutes) and it hurts the story line because it skips many key points, all of which are essential not only to the story, but to the fans of this popular Nickelodeon animated TV series. Fans will also dislike the fact that many things that do make it into the film have been altered, and don't follow their original way. A major one that I noticed was the pronunciation of the names and the appearance of the characters. For people like myself, that have never seen the TV series won't take the above into account, but I do believe that the story lacks a bit of in depth explanation as to what happened in the 100 years that Aang was gone. I say a bit because I still managed to understand the just of things. Shyamalan could have taken the script a little deeper and make the story more interesting because the movie really called for it. In my opinion the movie leave a lot to desire.

The fight scenes were good, but not excellent and what helps is the good CGI that went into bending the elements. The down side is that the scenes are short and lack creativity. In other words most of the fight scenes are shown off in the previews and I believe that's what will get most non-fans into theater rooms. If that's the case then they'll be in for a disappointment. M. Night Shyamalan clearly proved that this is not his type of movie, but then again his last few movies have flunked hence The villageand The Happening. He really needs to step it up or soon audiences will no longer care to see his movies.

'Transformers 3' To Be The Last

We have word that the next Transformers movie will not only be the last in the franchise, but will also take a different route. As USA Today indicates, the next movie will transform before you in theaters July 1st, 2011. The movie will also catch the 3D madness going around in Hollywood. As you all may know Megan Fox will no longer return to this sequel after being dropped and replaced by Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Michael Bay did acknowledge some of the things that went wrong with the second film. "One thing we're getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy," Bay explains, and when mentioning the twins he added saying, "They're basically gone". Another thing that will change is that after many deaths, and revivals, this movie will keep dead people or rusted metal (dead robots) dead. In other words, what dies in the movie will be kept dead.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura had the following to say, "We tried to do too many things in the second movie, which didn't give enough time in any one of them. We were constantly jumping to the next piece of information, the next place." as he explained that the plot in Revenge of the Fallen was strained due to rush.

The sequel which still lacks a subtitle will portray a Sam Witwicky stepping into adulthood while still being an ally to the autobots. The villain will now be Shockwave, a cyclops robot that turned into a laser cannon. Shockwave became the dictator of Cybertron after the Autobots and Decepticons left to earth.

The chance of the franchise continuing after this upcoming third installment is still there, but not with Shia LaBeouf or Michael Bay on board. So what are your opinions? Will this really be the end? Will there be a reboot any time soon? Let us know below in comments.

Costume Art For 'Captain America' Leaks Online

The good folks over at Ain't It Cool got a hold of, and posted artistic renderings of what Captain America's suit will look like. In fact the artist used Chris Evans as the model, and for those who don't know; Mr. Evans will be the one to play Captain America in the upcoming film. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 22nd, 2011.

As many have noticed, there are a few changes to the costume which in return make it look too modern for the WWII time period. Thanks to Cinematical, we can now confirm that this is only one of two different costumes that our good 'ol patriotic Cap will wear in the movie. It does seem like this leaked suit will be the main one to be used while the other one will be used less and will come from the Army for USO appearances. 'Super 8' Teaser Trailer Goes Live

A few weeks ago almost no one knew of the existence of J.J. Abrams' Super 8 movie, but after the first teaser trailer appeared in front of Iron Man 2 speculation quickly began. Many wonder if this is Cloverfield 2 or if it's just a new project of Abrams in collaboration with Steven Spielberg.

Truth on the matter is that we probably won't know for a while, but the good news for now is that Paramount Pictures has released the official teaser trailer. So now all of you that have not watched the sequel to Iron Man are in luck. Yes the trailer hit YouTube in bootleg editions (only to be brought down by Paramount), but for many that wasn't their cup of tea.

Jon Favreau Talks About 'Iron Man 3' Villain

In a recent interview with MTV, director Jon Favreau mentioned that he indeed would like a third installment to the Iron Man franchise. However, he also notes that it will be a difficult task for him due to other Marvel films that will be released in the next few years. As he points out different directors will be working on Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers; movies that will be out before Iron Man 3. Such movies will alter in one way or another Tony Stark's world for the third film. Favreau also mentions that Thor will introduce supernatural things as well as magic, so he hopes that things go well, allowing the path to open up for the Mandarin as the next villain who happens to be Iron Man's archenemy possessing superhuman powers.

'X-Men: First Class' Gets a Director

Fox has finally made up its mind about who will sit in the director's chair for the upcoming X-Men: First Class film. The chosen one to fill in the shoes of director will be Matthew Vaughn as he was picked from a total of eight possible directors. Vaughn's latest film is Kick-Ass and I'm sure you would agree that he's good with comic book movie adaptations.

Fox has also set a release date, which as of now is June 3, 2011. Plans for shooting to commence are set for this summer, and the movie will be focusing on Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, according to Variety. The movie will focus on how the aforementioned characters become Professor X and Magneto, and how they work together with other mutants (some of which will be familiar and others will be new) against a global threat.

If only Fox would have allowed Vaughn to direct X3: The Last Stand, would the movie have been better. Any expectations or guesses as to who the familiar and different mutants will be? Let us know in the comments section below...

'Machete' Releases "Illegal" Trailer for the State of Arizona

I'm sure you're all aware that today is Cinco de Mayo, and that the state of Arizona passed a bill last month to crack down on illegal immigration. Well this has sparked a new "illegal" Machete trailer to hit the Internet today through AICN, and courtesy of Danny Trejo and Robert Rodriquez. As you might of guessed, the trailer is a special message to the state of Arizona.

This new trailer has some of the old things that were originally in the fake trailer since Grindhouse debuted in theaters, but also offers new unseen footage... We get to see Robert De Niro (Mr. Politician man), Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal. Machete will be released this fall... Are you excited?

First Official 'Thor' Picture

The very first official picture (to the right) of Chris Hemsworth as Thor hit the Internet courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. The picture does not show a lot, but it's a start and I'm hoping we get to see more pictures in the coming weeks or perhaps days. I know many, specially fans might be outraged that there's no helmet or hammer in sight, and considering that I'd say they've done a good job, but that's just me. What do you guys think? Are you excited?

Thor will be playing at a theater near you on May 6, 2011, only a day shy of a year from the release of the upcoming Iron Man 2.

'Batman 3' Acquired Release Date

If you are a fan of The Dark Knight or Batman for that matter, I'm sure you have been awaiting the release date to Christopher Nolan's third installment of the aforementioned. Well today is your lucky day because Warner Bros. has announced the release date as...(drum-roll) July 20, 2012. Now there's one less thing to worry about, giving us the chance to speculate on the villain or villains, etc. Will this movie do just as good as its predecessor? Better or worse? 'Green Hornet' Being Converted to 3D and Moved to 2011, 'Last Airbender' Goes 3D As Well

The news came from Variety that Sony pictures will be pushing back The Green Hornet from its former release date of December 22 this year to January 14 of next year. This while the movie will under go the process of 3D conversion. It seems to be that the movie is being pushed back due to bad buzz surrounding the whole project. Sony also said that they are excited about the move on release dates, which will give Hornet more screens available for the 2D and 3D versions. December has already been booked by a few 3D releases such as, Tron: Legacy and Yogi Bear, films which Hornet won't have to fight head to head anymore.

Editorial: 3D and Movies, the Future?

There has recently been a boom in 3D films, but does 3D really do movies justice? Is the extra dollars even worth the "3D experience"? As much as I disagree with 3D on many movies, you the audience and ticket buyers seem to enjoy movies slapped with a 3D logo. I can't help but wonder why people seem to flock to 3D movies when in reality most of them offer little to zero 3D. Yes there are movies that look great on 3D hence Avatar, but movies such as the aforementioned were created with 3D in mind unlike many that are not, and then get shoved with 3D just because others are doing it. With this said should Avatar be the one to blame about the recent 3D movies?

In fact 3D has now moved from the big screen to the smaller screens in your living rooms etc. 3D is set to invade your home through 3D ready TV sets, 3D channels, Blu-Ray players, and even Sony's Playstation 3 among others. Does 3D really make all things better? From TV shows to movies and video games people are adopting this new way to experience what they watch, which in return makes me wonder if this is really just a fad (as I originally thought) or if it is here to stay.

'Machete' Getting His Revenge This September

As the title implies, we finally have a release date for Machete which according to Deadline will be on September 3rd. It has been a little over three years since we first saw the fake trailer during Robert Rodriguez' and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse. The movie comes packed with many known faces in the likes of Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal. The film was written by Robert Rodriguez, but co-directed by himself and Ethan Maniquis. As you may recall Machete focuses on an former Mexican Federale hired to assassinate a senator, but ends up being set up. This as you might expect only infuriates him as he vows to kill those who set him up. Now let's wait and see if Eli Roth's Thanksgiving ends up going down this path.
